Before cultivating mushroom, know its different varieties and characteristics

Many varieties of mushrooms are found. Out of which about 70 farmers are cultivated. In our country too, farmers are getting attracted towards mushroom cultivation. Some Major Varieties of Mushrooms

  • Button Mushroom: It is mainly cultivated in our country. Until a few years ago, it was cultivated only in regions with cooler temperatures. But now it is also cultivated in the plains. In the plains, it is cultivated by preparing the proper temperature in the greenhouse. The temperature of 22 to 26 degree centigrade is required for the fungus to spread. 14 to 18 degree centigrade temperature is most suitable for the growth of button mushroom.

  • Oyster mushroom: This variety is also known as Dhingri mushroom. This type of mushroom takes 2.5 to 3 months to mature. This variety is cultivated using wheat and paddy straw and grains. 20 to 30 degree centigrade temperature is suitable for oyster mushroom. Along with this, 70 to 90 percent humidity is required. It can be cultivated throughout the year.

  • Milky Mushrooms: Milky Mushrooms are large and attractive in size. It is mainly cultivated in West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The time from March to October is best for the cultivation of this variety of mushroom.

  • Pedistra Mushroom: Higher temperature is better for cultivation of this variety. It takes 3 to 4 weeks for the mushrooms to be ready. It is mainly cultivated in the states of Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, etc. Its growth requires 28 to 35 degree centigrade temperature and 60 to 70 percent humidity.

  • Shiitake Mushroom: This variety is ranked second in total mushroom production in the world. It is more delicious than other varieties. It is a good source of protein and B vitamins. Due to the absence of fat and sugar, it is suitable for people suffering from diabetes and heart disease.
