Garlic : Sucking Pest Management


The garlic crop is heavily damaged due to sucking pest. Thrips is the most prevalent among the sucking insects in garlic crop. These insects living in groups are hidden inside the leaves. Read this post carefully to know the identification of this pest, its damage and control measures.

  • These insects are white, brown or light yellow in color.

  • Its length is about 1 to 2 millimeters.

  • These insects suck the sap of tender leaves of plants.

  • White spots appear on the affected leaves.

  • As the infestation progresses, the leaves begin to shrivel.

  • Gradually the growth of plants stops.

  • The tuber size of the affected plants remains small.

Control Methods

  • If symptoms appear, spray 3 to 5 ml Econeum or Granem per liter of water. If required, spraying can be done 2 to 3 times at an interval of 10 to 12 days.

  • Spraying by mixing 50 ml country hawk in 15 liters of water can get rid of the sucking pest in garlic crop.

  • Spray with 1 ml Dimethoate 30 EC per liter of water.

  • Spraying by mixing 5 ml imidacloprid in 15 liters of water can also control the sucking pest.

  • Use a sticker after each spray.
