Major varieties and yields of groundnut

Apart from eating the groundnut grains, it is also used for extracting oil. It is rich in protein. Groundnut is cultivated in Kharif season. Before its cultivation it is necessary to know about some major varieties.

  • Gangapuri: By its cultivation, more production can be obtained in less time. The height of this variety of plants is about one to one and a half feet above the ground. It can be excavated 95 to 100 days after sowing. The amount of oil is found in its grains. 8 - 9 quintals of crop is produced per acre of land.

  • Prakash (CSMG 884): This variety is mainly cultivated in Uttar Pradesh. About 8 quintals of crop is obtained by cultivating per acre of land. This variety is ready for digging 115 to 120 days after sowing.

  • Amber: It is one of the varieties suitable for cultivation in the plains of North India. Up to 72 percent grains are found in its beans. 10 to 12 quintals of crop is produced per acre of land. Harvesting can be done about 115 to 120 days after sowing.

  • Number 13: It can be cultivated in sandy land. After sowing of this variety, 125 to 130 days after digging, the crop can be obtained. 12 quintal of crop is produced per acre of land. Grains are found in 66 percent quantity in its beans.

  • RG 382 : This variety is suitable for cultivation in Kharif season. Its grains are large in size. It takes about 115 to 120 days for the crop to be ready for digging. If cultivated per acre of land, the yield of 7 to 9 quintal crop is given.

  • Raj Durga: This variety can be cultivated in both irrigated and unirrigated land. It takes about 120 to 130 days to be ready for digging. The average yield per acre of land is 6.8 to 13.2 quintals.

  • TG 37A: This small grain variety has 51% oil content. The crop is ready for digging 125 days after sowing. Average yield per acre of land is 12 to 14 quintals. If this variety is not dug at the right time, then its grains start sprouting again.

  • Divya: This variety is mainly cultivated in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Excavation can be done in about 125 to 130 days. 10 quintal crop is produced per acre of land. Its pods have one or two grains.

Apart from this, there are many other varieties of groundnut, by cultivating which farmers can earn profits. Out of which M A- 10, M 548, G 201, AK 12-24, R G 382, TG-26, Utkarsh, G G 20, Virginia, C 501, P G 1 etc. are prominent.
