Some important tips for tomato nursery

Tomato is the most used among vegetables. Apart from being used as a salad, it also enhances the taste of dishes by adding it to lentils and other dishes. Apart from red ripe tomatoes, raw tomatoes are also used. There is hardly any house in our country where tomatoes are not available. Its cultivation also proves to be very beneficial for the farmers. Before cultivating tomato, it is necessary to know the method of preparing its nursery. So let us get to know some important things to keep in mind while preparing a tomato nursery.

Seed quantity

• 150-200 grams of seed is required for tomato cultivation per acre of field.

• For cultivation of hybrid varieties, 60 to 80 grams of seed is required per acre of field.

• It is very important to treat the seeds before sowing. Due to this, many harmful diseases and pests can be saved to the plants.

• Before sowing, treat seed with 2 gm captan per kg.

• Trichoderma can also be treated with 5 grams per kilogram of seed.

• The soil needs to be friable. So first of all plow well.

• Add well-rotted manure or compost to the soil at the time of tillage.

• Water logging in the nursery increases the chances of damping off and many diseases. Arrange for proper drainage to avoid water logging situation.

• For sowing the seeds, prepare the beds at a height of 10 to 15 cm from the ground surface.

• Sow seeds on all the beds. Sow the seed at a distance of 5 cm and a depth of 2 to 3 cm.

Nursery plant care

• Inspect small plants at intervals of a few days.

• When symptoms of the disease are observed, separate the affected plants from the healthy ones.

• To protect small plants from disease and pest infestation, sprinkle 2 ml neem oil in 1 liter of water.

• Apart from this, you can also spray by adding 2 grams of Mancozeb per liter of water.
