berries cultivation

July - August is the best month for transplanting new Jamun plants. Its fruits are rich in many medicinal properties, from dark purple to black and oval. Due to good price of Jamun fruits in the market, farmers can earn more profit by cultivating it. Information about suitable soil , climate, field preparation etc. can be obtained from here for its cultivation.

soil and climate

  • For good yield, cultivate it in loamy soil with proper drainage.

  • It should not be cultivated in hard and sandy soil.

  • Its plants do not have much effect of cold, heat and rain.

  • But extreme cold proves to be harmful for the plants.

  • At the same time, there can be a decrease in yield even in extreme heat.

farm preparation

  • First of all, do deep ploughing once in the field.

  • After deep plowing, leave the field open for a few days. This will destroy the harmful insects already present in the field.

  • After this, do light plowing 1 to 2 times.

  • After plowing, make the soil level by planting a pad in the field.

  • Now prepare pits 1 feet wide and 2 feet deep in the field. Keep a distance of 5 to 7 meters between all the pits.

  • Mix equal quantity of cow dung or compost in the soil and fill the pits and do light irrigation.

  • Now you can transplant Jamun seeds in all the pits or already prepared seedlings in the nursery.

Irrigation and Fruit Harvesting

  • Jamun plants do not require much irrigation.

  • Jamun plants require only 8 to 10 irrigations per year.

  • Irrigation at the time of fruiting of plants i.e. in the month of April to June increases the yield.

  • In case of extreme cold, irrigate the plants to protect them from freezing.

  • The fruits of Jamun turn from green to dark purple or black in color when ripe. It should be harvested when the fruit is ripe.

  • The fruits start falling due to delay in harvesting. Therefore, harvest should be done at the right time.
