Banana sigatoka disease and control measures

One of the diseases that negatively affects the banana crop is Sigatoka disease. This disease is also called leaf spot or leaf streak. To protect the banana crop from this harmful disease, it is necessary to know the symptoms of this disease and ways to avoid it.

Symptoms of Sigatoka's Disease

  • In the beginning of this disease , yellowish oval spots are formed on the banana leaves.

  • Gradually these spots start increasing in number and size.

  • The color of the spots changes from yellow to dark brown.

  • When the disease is more severe, the leaves start drying up.

  • The fruits of plants suffering from this disease also remain small in size.

  • The fruits ripen prematurely and the quality of the fruits decreases.

disease prevention measures

  • Do not collect tubers for banana cultivation from areas affected by this disease.

  • Destroy the weeds from the field.

  • Do not allow water logging in the banana field.

  • To get rid of this disease, 4 times spraying of medicines should be done at an interval of 20 days.

  • First spray by mixing 1 gram Carbendazim and 8 ml Banol oil per liter of water.

  • For second spray apply 1 ml propiconazole and 8 ml banol oil per liter of water.

  • For the third time, sprinkle 1 gram Companion and 8 ml Banol oil per liter of water.

  • For the fourth spray, use 1 gram Tridemorph and 8 ml Banol oil per liter of water.

  • Before spraying the drug, remove the diseased leaves from the field and destroy them.
