Some improved varieties of Cauliflower and their characteristics

  • Pusa Early Synthetic (Aagat): This variety is cultivated in both Zayed and Kharif season. For cultivation in Kharif season, plants should be planted in the month of June-July. Sandy loam soil is best for its cultivation. The flowers of this variety are white in color and firm like cream. The leaves are blue-green and the plant is straight. The flowers are small to medium in size. It takes 70 to 75 days for the crop to be ready. The yield per acre of land is 48 to 60 quintals.

  • Himrani: This variety is suitable for cultivation in August-September. It can be cultivated successfully in medium and low land. Plants of this variety require well drained loamy soil or sandy loam soil for good growth. The flowers of this variety of cabbage are white as snow. The plants are attractive and upright. Adequate amount of bacteria should be available in the soil. Harvesting can be done in about 80 to 85 days after sowing. The average yield per acre of land is up to 100 quintals. At the same time, maximum yield up to 240 quintals can be obtained.

  • Pusa Him Jyoti (Middle): Nursery of this variety is prepared in the month of August-September. Planting is done in the main field in the month of September-October. It is one of the quick growing varieties. The color of the flowers of this variety is white. The leaves are blue-green and covered with a waxy substance. Each flower weighs from 500 to 600 grams. It takes 60-75 days for the crop to become ready. Yields range from 64 to 72 quintals per acre of land.

  • Pushpa: This variety can be cultivated from mid-August to September. The flowers of this variety are solid and white in color. Each flower weighs from 1 to 1.5 kg. Cultivation of this variety should be done in loamy soil and sandy loam soil with proper drainage. It takes 85 to 95 days for the crop to become ready. The yield ranges from 100 to 180 quintals per acre of land.

  • Pusa Shubhra (Middle): The month of August-September is suitable for nursery preparation of this variety. The seedlings prepared in the nursery should be transplanted in the month of September-October. The flowers of this variety are firm and white in color. The leaves are blue-green and covered with a waxy substance. This variety is suitable for cultivation in the upper and middle lands. It takes 90 to 95 days for the crop to become ready. Each flower weighs around 700-800 grams. The yield per acre of land is 80 to 100 quintals.
