Benefits of using pheromone trap in gram crop

There are many types of pests in the gram crop. These include gram worm, pod borer insect, cutworm, etc. Generally, the infestation of these pests reduces the yield by 15 to 30 percent. If these pests are not controlled in time, up to 80 percent of the crop can be destroyed. In such a situation, farmers use various insecticides to control them, which is harmful to the crops as well as our health and the soil of the field. Now the question arises that how to get control of these pests without using pesticides? The answer is pheromone propagation.

Advantages of installing pheromone trap in gram crop

  • The use of pheromone trap does not adversely affect the fertility of crops and field.

  • Male insects are trapped using pheromone traps. In the absence of a male insect, the female insect is unable to lay eggs. As a result, the number of insects decreases.

  • Different insects are attracted by applying different lures.

  • The cost of pesticides is reduced.

  • The cost of labor for spraying insecticides is also less.

How many pheromone traps should be installed in gram crop?

  • Apply 5 to 8 pheromone traps per acre of gram.

  • Plant it at a height of about 1 to 2 feet from the height of the crops.
