Brinjal crop is being destroyed by stem borer insect

The infestation of stem borer insect is highest in the brinjal crop. If this pest is not controlled in time, then up to 30 percent of the crop of brinjal can be destroyed. See the damage caused by the stem borer pest and how to control it from here.

Symptoms of stem borer pest infestation

  • Adult insects lay eggs on the leaves of plants.

  • The larvae of this insect feed on the soft part of plants. Due to which the twigs of the eggplant start withering from the ends.

  • These insects also pierce the fruits when they come to fruition and destroy the crop by eating the fruits from inside.

  • Affected fruits become crooked in shape.

  • The growth of plants is hindered as the outbreak progresses.

Stem borer pest control methods

  • If possible, collect and destroy insect eggs.

  • Keep the field free from weeds.

  • Cut off the affected leaves, twigs and fruits and destroy them outside the field.

  • To attract the pest, apply 4 to 6 pheromone traps per acre of field.

  • Spray 150 liters of water per acre by mixing 50 ml countryside cutter.

  • Spray with 150 ml Lambda- Cylonthrin 4.9 CS in 200 to 250 liters of water per acre of field.

  • At the time of flowering, spray 15 liters of water with 7-8 ml Coragen 18.5 percent SC.

  • Avoid the use of insecticides after the plants bear fruit.

  • If you are using insecticides after the appearance of fruits, then do not pluck the fruits for 5-6 days after spraying the drugs.
