Cultivate castor in this way for good yield

The demand for castor oil is increasing continuously. In such a situation, its cultivation can become a source of good income for the farmers. If you also want to do castor cultivation, then get the information about suitable soil for its cultivation, climate, preparation of the field, amount of manure and fertilizer, etc.

  • It can be cultivated in almost all types of soil.

  • Sandy loam soil is best for its cultivation.

  • Do not choose the soil with waterlogged and alkaline soil to get good yield.

  • All climates are suitable for its cultivation.

  • It should be cultivated in dry and hot climate areas to get good crop.

  • Castor plants can tolerate prolonged drought.

  • Generally, 16 kg of nitrogen and 8 kg of phosphorus are required per acre of field.

  • While preparing the field, add 8 kg nitrogen and 8 kg phosphorus per acre of field.

  • Spray remaining 8 kg of nitrogen in the standing crop.

  • To get good yield, apply 400 kg of cow dung manure per acre of field.

Irrigation and Weed Control

  • Castor crop does not require much irrigation.

  • If there is proper irrigation system, then irrigate at an interval of 15 to 20 days.

  • If there is water scarcity in your area then you can get good production even by doing only three irrigations.

  • In water deficient areas, first irrigation after 75 days of sowing, second irrigation after 95 days of sowing and third irrigation after 100 days of sowing.

  • To control weeds, keep weeding and hoeing at intervals of some time.

  • When the color of the sikar starts turning from green to yellow, then it should be plucked.

  • Usually first harvesting is done 90 to 120 days after sowing.

  • Thereafter, harvesting can be done at an interval of every 30 days.

  • After harvesting, the seeds should be dried in the sun.

  • The yield per acre of field in dry areas ranges from 320 to 400 kg.

  • In irrigated areas, the yield per acre of field is about 600 to 1040 kg.
