Cultivation of exotic vegetables: a means of earning big

Farmers are getting attracted towards the cultivation of new crops by moving away from traditional crops. Due to the huge earnings from the cultivation of foreign vegetables, many farmers are paying more attention to the cultivation of foreign vegetables these days. Talk about foreign vegetables, their demand has started increasing in restaurants and hotels. However, these vegetables require more care as compared to conventional crops. Which foreign vegetables are in increasing demand?

These days the demand for exotic vegetables like broccoli, colored Chinese cabbage, red and yellow capsicum, salami, pokchoi, parsley, lettuce, kale, cherry tomato, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, etc. is high.

Some major exotic vegetables

  • Broccoli: This cabbage is included in the category of vegetables. Its plants and flowers look like cauliflower. Its flowers are green, yellow and purple in color. But green broccoli is the most popular. The best time for nursery preparation is the month of September-October. The nursery is prepared in August-September in medium altitude areas. Prepare nursery in March-April in high altitude areas. For its cultivation, sandy loamy soil rich in organic manure is best. About 5 to 6 tonnes of broccoli is produced per acre of farmland.

  • Brussels Sprouts: It looks like a small sized cabbage. Its size ranges from 3 to 5 cm in diameter. The month of August-September is suitable for sowing this vegetable rich in Vitamin A. However, it can be cultivated throughout the year in artificial environment. 160 to 200 grams of seed is required for cultivation per acre of land. Talking about the yield, 20 to 40 quintals of vegetables are obtained per acre of land.

  • Lettuce: Vitamins, calcium and iron are found in abundance in them. Well drained fertile loamy soil is best for its cultivation. It can also be cultivated by direct sowing along with nursery preparation. For nursery cultivation, 160 to 200 grams of seed is required per acre of land. For direct sowing, 800 g to 1 kg seed is required per acre of land. Cultivation of leafy varieties gives a yield of 24 to 30 quintals.

  • Salary: Apart from salad, it is used in making soups and chutneys. A high quality crop is obtained in areas with low moisture and when there is plenty of sunlight. 40 to 50 grams of seed is required per acre of land. On the other hand, if cultivated per acre of land, 120 to 200 quintals can be obtained.
