Know where is the cultivation of Makhana?

Makhana is in great demand in the international markets. Keeping this in mind, the Central Government is continuously working to promote the cultivation of Makhana in many states of the country. Makhana cultivation has proved to be a boon for the farmers.

• In our country, Bihar accounts for 85 percent of the total production of Makhana in India.

• Its cultivation was started in Purnia, Katihar and Araria districts of Bihar about a decade and a half ago.

• Makhana is produced in large quantities in many villages of Darbhanga and Madhubani in Bihar.

• Along with this, it is also cultivated in Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Purvanchal of Uttar Pradesh , Terai and Central UP.

• Talking about foreign countries, Makhana is also cultivated in countries like China, Russia, Japan and Korea.
