Major diseases and their prevention in floriculture

Many flowers are cultivated in our country like marigold, rose, gladiolus, chrysanthemum, tuberose, champa, etc. By cultivating flowers, farmers can earn more profit in less time. Various types of pests adversely affect the quality of flowers. Timely prevention of these diseases is essential. Get information about some of the major diseases of flowers from here.

  • Powdery mildew: This disease is also called powdery mildew. When this disease occurs, a white powder-like layer is formed on the stems, leaves and flowers of the plants. As the disease progresses, the buds may not bloom. To avoid this disease, spray 1 ml Hexaconazole 5% or 3 gm Sulfur 80% WP 2 to 3 times at an interval of 12 to 15 days.

  • Leaf blight disease: In the beginning of this disease, brown spots start forming on the plants. As the disease progresses, the new branches and leaves of the plants dry up. To get rid of this disease , spray 2 ml Mancozeb or Bavistin per liter of water.

  • Moist rot: This disease mainly affects small nursery plants. The stems of the plants affected by the disease turn black and start rotting. To protect the plants from this disease, sow the seed after treating it with 3 gm Thiram per kg.

  • Leaf spot disease: It is a fungal disease. Due to this disease, black and purple spots begin to form on the stems, leaves and flowers of the plants. When affected by the disease, the leaves also turn yellow and start falling. Spray with 2 ml Mancozeb per liter of water. Repeat the process of spraying 2 to 3 times at an interval of 15 days if required.
