Major diseases of Guava and their control

  • Fruit rot disease: Due to this disease, the fruits of guava begin to rot, along with the growth of white fungus and scorching of leaves. The outbreak of this disease is more during the rainy season. The fruits affected by this disease start falling. To save the plants from this disease , spray 0.2% Dithane Z-78. Along with this, you should treat the soil with 0.3 percent copper oxychloride and destroy the affected fruits by plucking them.

  • Uktha disease: It is a disease spread by this fungus. Soil that has a pH level of 7.5 to 9.5 or more is more prone to this disease. In this disease, guava plants start drying up. To control this disease, remove dry plants and dry twigs. Spray with a mixture of 0.5 percent Metasystax and Zinc Sulphate on the wilted plants. Apart from this, at the time of hoeing, mixing carbendazim 3 grams per liter of water and giving it near the root is effective.

  • Fruit spot disease: In this disease, brown and black spots appear on the fruits. It can also be seen on leaves as the disease progresses. This disease is found more in plants in the month of April to August. To avoid this disease, spray 30-40 grams of copper oxychloride per 15 liter tank. If required, spraying can be done 3 to 4 times at an interval of every 15 days.

  • Black color disease: Black spots start forming on the fruits affected by this disease and the development of fruits also stops. As the disease progresses, the fruits rot on the tree and the leaves dry up. To avoid this disease, spray the plants by mixing 2 grams of Mancozeb or 3 grams of copper oxychloride per liter of water. If needed, spraying can be done at an interval of 10 to 15 days till the fruits come.
