Major diseases of lady's finger and their prevention

Bhindi crop gets ruined due to various diseases. Due to which farmers are not getting proper benefits. It is necessary to keep the plants disease free for good yield. With proper management, you can save lady finger from diseases.

Some major diseases of lady's finger

  • Yellow vein mosaic virus: This disease is also called yellow vein mosaic virus. The disease is spread by white flies. In this disease yellow spots appear on the leaves. As the disease progresses, the fruits also turn yellow. Plants affected by this disease stop growing. The outbreak of this disease is more during the rainy season. To avoid this, spray 60 grams of Acetamiprid 20 sp per acre of field before and after flowering of plants. Repeat spraying after 10 days as needed. Has sown by Upcrit sowing pre Imidaclorpid 5 grams per kilogram rate of seeds can also be used to reduce the disease.

  • Powdery Mildew: Due to this disease, white colored powdery spots start forming on the leaves and stems of plants. As the disease progresses, the leaves turn yellow and fall off. To avoid this disease, sprinkle 2 ml Hexaconazole 5% EC or 3 g Sulfur 80% WP or 2 ml Dinocap per liter of water. If required , re-spraying can be done at an interval of 10 to 12 days.

  • Humidosis: This disease causes blackening of the stem of plants. This causes the plants to become weak or dry out. As a result the yield is reduced. This disease starts growing when there is more humidity in the environment. To avoid this disease , treat the seed with 2 gm Thiram per kg of seed. Plant the plants at proper distance. So that there is air circulation in the field. Remove the affected plants from the field.

  • Root rot: Root rot of plants affected by this disease. Gradually the plants start turning yellow. To save the plants from this disease, before sowing , treat the seed with 2 gm Bavistin per kg. Maintain proper management of weeds in the field. Make arrangement for drainage in the field and avoid over-irrigation.
