Method of preparing papaya plants in nursery

Before cultivating papaya, the plants have to be prepared in the nursery. Plants are prepared in two ways in the nursery. From here you can get information about both the methods. Along with this, we are also giving information about the identification of male and female plants in this post.

• For sowing seeds, first make 15 - 20 cm high beds from the ground surface in the nursery.

• Make the beds at a distance of about 10 cm.

• Sow the seeds in these beds at a distance of 4 to 5 cm.

• When the height of the plants is 20 to 25 cm, plant the plants in the prepared pit.

• Plant 1-1 plants in each pit.

Method of preparing plants in polythene

• To prepare plants in polythene, first take 25 cm long and 20 cm wide mouth polythene.

• Fill all the polythene by mixing soil, sand and cow dung. In this process, keep in mind that about 1 cm from the top should remain empty.

• Now sow 1 to 2 seeds in all the bags.

• Do not let the soil in the bags lose its moisture content.

• After seed germination, keep only one plant in each bag in which there are two plants.

• When the plants are 15 to 20 cms, then carefully take the plants out of the bags and plant them in the prepared pits.

Identification of male and female plants

• Except for the Red Lady 786, all other cultivars have separate male and female plants.

• For every 100 female plants, 5 to 10 male plants are suitable. Male plants more than this should be removed.

• Male and female plants are identified by the flowers on the plants.

• Papaya plants start flowering within about 90 to 100 days.

• The female flowers are yellow in color 2.5 cm long.

• The female flowers emerge near the stem.

• Whereas the male flowers are in small clusters.

• Male flowers have long stalks that are attached to the stem.
