Orange cultivation key points

Orange is the most cultivated fruit in our country after mango and banana. Apart from eating its fruits, it is also used in making juices, jams and jellies. In India, oranges are mainly cultivated in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. One plant of orange yields 100 to 150 kg of fruits at a time.

  • Light loamy soil with good drainage is best for its cultivation.

  • The pH level of the soil should be between 6.5 to 8.

  • Do not choose waterlogged fields for its cultivation.

  • Its cultivation in dry climate gives good yield.

  • Fruits require a warm environment for ripening.

farm preparation

  • While preparing the field, once deep ploughing, then 2 to 3 times light plowing.

  • After plowing, make the field level by putting a pad in the field.

  • Now prepare pits 1 meter wide and 1 meter deep in the field.

  • Make all the pits at an interval of 15 to 18 feet.

  • After keeping it open for a few days, fill the pits with rotted cow dung mixed with soil and irrigate.

irrigation and harvesting

  • Give the first irrigation after transplanting the plants.

  • Irrigate once a week in summer season.

  • Irrigate the plants at the time of flowering.

  • Harvest when the fruit turns yellow or orange in color.

  • The fruits are harvested from January to March.

  • Harvest the fruit with the stalk. This increases the storage capacity of the fruit.
