Brinjal is one of the most loved vegetables rich in many nutrients. While cultivating brinjal, care is required to avoid many types of pests and diseases. A small mistake can cause huge damage to the crop due to the outbreak of various pests and diseases. One of these diseases in brinjal is Phomopsis blight disease. To avoid this disease, see its symptoms and prevention measures from here.

  • The disease is caused by a fungus called Phomopsisvaccens.

  • The disease usually damages the crops of brinjal, tomato and green chillies.

  • symptom of disease

  • The symptoms of this disease are clearly visible on the leaves, stem and fruits of the plants.

  • After some time these spots burst and holes are formed in the leaves.

  • The leaves affected by this disease dry up.

  • As the disease progresses, these spots also appear on the stem and fruits.

  • Gradually the stem of the plants starts drying up due to this disease.

  • Brown soft spots appear on the fruits of brinjal affected by this disease.

preventive measures

  • Select only high quality certified and disease free seeds.

  • To avoid this disease, adopt crop rotation of cereal crops.

  • Uproot the affected plants and remove them from the field.

  • Before sowing, treat the seed with Carbendazim @ 5 g per kg.

  • After about 10 to 15 days after transplanting the plants and at the time of flowering , spray 1.5 grams of Carbendazim per liter of water.

  • Apart from this, fungicides like Captan, Geneb, Mancozeb etc. can also be sprayed on the leaves of plants.
