Pran Vayu Devta Pension Yojana: Unique initiative to conserve trees

Now trees above 75 years will get pension. Yes, you heard it right. On the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5, 2021), Haryana Government has announced Pran Vayu Devta Pension Scheme. According to the announcement of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, a pension amount of Rs 2500 per year will be provided for the protection and maintenance of trees above 75 years of age under this scheme.
In this era of corona epidemic, the whole country is struggling with the lack of oxygen. If we talk about the supply of free oxygen, then trees are of utmost importance in this. But in the time of increasing population and urbanization, trees are being felled day by day for the construction of tall buildings. In such a situation, in order to understand the importance of trees and to promote the conservation of trees, the Haryana Government has started a unique scheme of Pran Vayu Devta Pension Yojana. Under this scheme, trees of 75 years of age or more, which have worked to reduce pollution and provide shade along with producing oxygen throughout their life, will be honored by giving pension amount every year to such trees.
According to reports, so far 2,500 trees above 75 years of age have been identified in the state of Haryana. A survey was conducted by the Forest Department to identify the trees. After the survey, Gram Panchayats will be given Rs 2,500 per tree for the maintenance of all the trees. Trees will be given this pension amount every year like old age samman pension.
