Pumpkin: Ways to control gummosis disease

Apart from pumpkin, many other crops like lemon, mango, olive, peach, etc. are also affected by gummosis disease. • It is a fungal disease caused by a fungus called Phytophthora.

• Wind, rain, irrigation water and various insects work to spread the bacteria of this disease to other vines.

• Due to this disease, raised blisters start appearing in the vines.

• After some time these blisters turn into a wound.

• As the disease progresses, these blisters start secreting brown gum.

• The number of flowers and fruits decreases in the affected vines.

• As the outbreak progresses, the vines begin to dry up.

• This increases the risk of canker disease in the vines.

Control Methods

• To prevent the spread of the disease, if possible, break and destroy the diseased parts.

• Do not leave the remains of disease-affected crops in the field. Destroy them by burning them out of the field.

• Do not allow water logging in the field.

• To control this disease, mix 25 grams of Countryside Full Stop in 15 liters of water and spray it.

• Spray copper oxychloride when symptoms of the disease are observed.

• Apart from this, sprinkle 2 ml Carbendazim per liter of water.

• The disease can also be controlled by spraying 2.5 ml Ridomil Gold per liter of water.
