Pumpkin: Ways to control gummosis disease

Apart from pumpkin, many other crops like lemon, mango, olive, peach, etc. are also affected by gummosis disease. It is a fungal disease caused by a fungus called Phytophthora.

Wind, rain, irrigation water and various insects work to spread the bacteria of this disease to other vines.

Due to this disease, raised blisters start appearing in the vines.

After some time these blisters turn into a wound.

As the disease progresses, these blisters start secreting brown gum.

The number of flowers and fruits decreases in the affected vines.

As the outbreak progresses, the vines begin to dry up.

This increases the risk of canker disease in the vines.
Control Methods

To prevent the spread of the disease, if possible, break and destroy the diseased parts.

Do not leave the remains of disease-affected crops in the field. Destroy them by burning them out of the field.

Do not allow water logging in the field.

To control this disease, mix 25 grams of Countryside Full Stop in 15 liters of water and spray it.

Spray copper oxychloride when symptoms of the disease are observed.

Apart from this, sprinkle 2 ml Carbendazim per liter of water.

The disease can also be controlled by spraying 2.5 ml Ridomil Gold per liter of water.
