Some Major Varieties of Turmeric

Turmeric has a special place among spices. It is necessary to select improved varieties for cultivation of turmeric. Farmers can get good crop by cultivating improved varieties. From here you can get information about the characteristics and yield of some improved varieties of turmeric.

  • Sugandham: The tubers of this type of turmeric, which are ready in 210 days, are long in size and yellow in color with light redness. Generally, about 80 to 90 quintals of turmeric is obtained per acre of land.

  • Palam Pitambar: It is one of the high yielding crops. Its tubers are dark yellow in colour. About 132 quintals of turmeric is produced per acre of land.

  • Sudarshan: Tubers of this type of turmeric are small in size and beautiful in appearance. It can be excavated about 190 days after planting it.

  • Sonia: It takes 230 days to prepare. On an average, 110 to 115 quintals of turmeric is produced per acre of land.

  • Sorma : Its tubers are orange in color from inside. About 80 to 90 quintal crop is obtained per acre. It takes 210 days for this variety to become ready for digging.

  • Rajendra Sonia: The height of its plants is 60 to 80 cm. It takes 195 to 210 days to prepare. We get 160 to 180 quintals of turmeric per acre of land.

  • RH5: This variety with about 80 to 100 cm tall plants matures in 210 to 220 days. The yield of turmeric is 200 to 220 quintals per acre of land.

Apart from these varieties, there are many other improved varieties of turmeric. In which Saguna, Roma, Coimbatore, Krishna, R. H 9/90, RH- 13/90, Palam Lalima, NDR 18, BSR 1, Pant Pitamba etc. are included.
