Suitable time for sowing of Kharif maize and method of sowing

Maize is the second most cultivated crop in India after wheat. It can be cultivated in all seasons Rabi, Kharif and Zaid. Be it plain area or hilly area, it can be cultivated successfully. If you also want to cultivate maize in this Kharif season, then get the right time of sowing and some other information related to sowing from here.

Suitable time for sowing of Kharif maize

  • The month of June-July is suitable for sowing of Kharif maize.

  • Late maturing varieties can be sown by mid-June.

  • Early maturing varieties should be sown by the last week of June.

  • Sow the cultivated varieties during the rainy season by the first week of July.

Seed quantity and method of seed treatment

  • Cultivation of short grain varieties requires 6.4 to 7.2 kg of seed per acre of land.

  • For cultivation of hybrid varieties, 8 to 8.8 kg seed is required per acre of land.

  • For cultivating complex varieties, 7.2 to 8 kg of seed is required per acre of field.

  • Treat seed with Carbendazim@2gm per kg of seed.

  • Apart from this, 2.5 grams of Thiram per kilogram of seed can also be treated.

  • Maize should be sown in a row. This facilitates irrigation and weed control.

  • Keep a distance of 60 cm between all the rows.

  • If you are cultivating early varieties of maize, then keep a distance of 20 cm from plant to plant.

  • When cultivating late maturing varieties, there should be a distance of 25 cm between all the plants.

  • Sow the seeds at a depth of 3 to 4 cm.
