Symptoms and prevention of clubroot disease in cabbage crop

Club root is one of the major diseases found in cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, turnip, radish etc. If you cultivate cabbage then read this post carefully to protect your crop from this disease.

cause of disease

  • It is a soil borne disease.

  • The disease is most prevalent in warm, moist, acidic soils.

  • The leaves of plants affected by this disease start turning yellow.

  • The size of the roots of the plants becomes thick and knots are formed in it.

  • Plant growth stops.

  • New plants begin to dry up.

  • Older plants do not produce a harvestable crop.

  • As the disease progresses, the roots turn black and the roots rot.

preventive measures

  • To avoid this disease, choose disease free certified seeds.

  • Do not cultivate cabbage in the field where club root disease is visible.

  • If the residue of crops affected by this disease has been put in any field, then avoid cultivating cabbage there.

  • Cabbage crop should not be cultivated for 5 to 7 years in the field where outbreak of this disease has been observed.

  • Keep the equipment used for farming clean.

  • It is necessary to control weeds in the field.

  • Get the pH level of the soil checked.

  • This disease is found more in the soil of about 5.7 to 7 pH level.

  • To avoid this, keep the pH level of the soil 7.3 to 7.5.

  • To protect the plants from this disease, treat the seed with Pseudomonas @ 10 gm per kg of seed.

  • Keep the field free from weeds.

  • Follow crop rotation for 3 years in disease-infested areas.
