Ginger has been used as a spice for centuries. Ginger has many medicinal properties, due to which it is also used in the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. There is always a demand for ginger, which enhances the taste of many dishes and beverages. Therefore its cultivation proves beneficial for the farmers. Major and improved varieties of ginger

  • Suprabha: Its plants produce more buds. The skin of the rhizome is white and shiny. This variety takes 225 to 230 days to mature. This variety is resistant to rhizome rot disease. The yield ranges from 80 to 92 quintals per acre of land.

  • Surbhi: The bales of this variety of ginger are attractive. It takes 225 to 235 days for this variety to mature and become ready. This variety is tolerant to rhizome rot disease. If cultivated per acre of land, then 80 to 100 quintals can be obtained.

  • River: In which it is suitable for cultivation in North Indian regions. In about 8 to 9 months, the crop is ready to ripen. Ginger yields from 80 to 100 quintals from one acre of land.

  • Athira: It takes about 220 to 240 days for this variety of crop to become ready. Ginger yields from 84 to 92 quintals per acre of field. It gives about 22.6 percent dry ginger, 3.4 percent crude fiber and 3.1 percent oil.
