Tikka disease in groundnut crop

Tikka disease in groundnut is also known as leaf spot disease. This disease, spread by mildew, mostly affects young plants of 1 or 2 months. This disease causes maximum damage to the groundnut crop. If it is not dealt with in time, the crop yield can be reduced by 10 to 50 percent.

symptoms of disease

  • The effect of this disease first appears on the leaves of the plants.

  • Small spots begin to form on the leaves affected by the disease.

  • Round in shape, these spots are dark brown in colour.

  • There are yellow stripes along the edge of the spots.

  • As the disease progresses, the leaves turn yellow and fall off.

preventive measures

  • Select healthy healthy seeds without disease for sowing.

  • Before sowing, treat seed per kilogram with a fungicide called Thiram 75 percent or Mancozeb 75 percent at 3 gm.

  • If possible, choose disease resistant varieties.

  • Avoid working in the field when the leaves are wet. Remove and destroy infected plants from the field.

  • Control weeds in the field. Also follow crop rotation.

  • After 40 days of sowing, 2-3 sprays can be done with 500 grams of Carbendazim 50% (Bavistin) in 200 liters of water at 15 days interval.

  • Spraying of Mancozeb 75 percent (Dithane M45) or Copper Oxychloride (Blue-Copper/Blitox)@700 gm/ 250 Ltr of water per acre in 250 liters of water per acre, if symptoms of the disease are observed, spray.

  • If required, 2-3 spraying can be done at an interval of 15 days.
