Urad: Right time of sowing, seed rate and field preparation

Protein, carbohydrates, calcium and phosphorus are found in abundance in urad. In our country, urad is cultivated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh. right time of sowing

  • It can be sown from February to August.

  • If you want to cultivate in Zayed season, sow the seeds in February-March.

  • For cultivation in Kharif season, sow seeds in June-July.

Seed quantity

  • If it is to be cultivated in Kharif season, then 4.8 to 6 kg of seed will be required per acre of field.

  • If urad is to be cultivated in summer season, then 8 to 10 kg seed is required per acre of field.

farm preparation method

  • First of all, do deep ploughing once in the field.

  • After this, do light plowing 2 to 3 times.

  • After plowing, make the soil of the field friable and level by applying a pat.

  • Do not allow water logging in the field. Make good drainage system.

  • If cultivating it in heavy soil then more tillage will be required.
