There are many varieties of onions. Some are red in colour. Some onions are of yellow color and some are of white color as well. Through this post, we have brought information about the varieties of red colored onions.

Some major varieties of red color

• Bhima Deep Red: Flat and spherical with dark red color, this onion is mainly cultivated in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan , Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. The crop is ready in 95 to 100 days. On an average, 200 to 220 quintals of onion is produced per hectare.

• Bhima Lal: It takes 105 to 110 days for this type of onion crop to ripen in Kharif. Wherein in Rabi season it gets ripe in 110 to 120 days. Generally, the crop yield is 190 to 210 quintals per hectare in Kharif and 480 to 520 quintals per hectare in late Kharif. Talking about the Rabi season, about 300 to 320 quintals of onion is produced per hectare.

• Bhima Super: This variety can also be cultivated as a late crop. When cultivated in Kharif, the crops are ready in 100 to 105 days. It takes about 110 to 120 days for the crop to be ready in late Kharif. In Kharif, 220 to 250 quintals of onion can be obtained per hectare of land. In late Kharif, the yield of onion is 400 to 450 quintals per hectare.

• Arka Niketan: It is cultivated in both Kharif and Rabi season. It takes 145 days for the crop to become ready. It is mainly cultivated in Madhya Pradesh , Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The yield per hectare of land is 325 to 350 quintals. The weight of one tuber is from 100 to 180 grams.

• Pusa Ratnar: Its tubers are dark red, slightly flattened and round. It can be excavated 125 days after transplanting. Yields range from 400 to 500 quintals per hectare.

• Hisar-2: Digging of this variety can be done about 175 days after transplanting. The yield per hectare of land is about 300 quintals. Onions of this variety with good storage capacity are round , brown in color and less pungent.

Apart from this, Patna Lal, Punjab Lal Gol, Punjab Selection, Pusa Lal, Arka Pragati, Arka Lime, Nashik Lal, Red Globe , Kalyanpur Lal, Bellary Lal, Poona Lal, L-2-4-1 etc. are also red colored onions. Varieties included.
