Initial diagnosis:

Capsules with bore holes.

Symptoms:

Damaged capsules are webbed together. Peduncle and capsules showing galleries made of silk and brownish-black frass.

Damage type:

Infestation is serious in the months of September-October preferably in varieties whose spikes are compact and capsules are with thorns. Severe attack results in failure of the crop.
